LOST AND FOUND

A project for the survival of stories

BACKGROUND

  INSPIRATION

This project is inspired by the survivors of significant events throughout history. These survirors have valuable emotional stories that are never given the opportunity to be told and, hence, are forever lost. This notion also occurs as we move through our day-to-day lives. Often when we gain new experiences and collect new stories we instantly move past the moment and never think about it again. Our stories go lost. To address this silent phenomenon I wanted to create a platform for these lost stories to found, shared and valued and also used them as tools for physical and emotional connection between people.

RESEARCH AND PRECEDENTS

During development for this project a main precedent was ‘Humans of New York’ an organisation that that collects stories, mostly from times of adversity, from everyday people. For Lost and Found, I was inspired by how ‘Humans of New York found real stories from real people and also wanted to capture that essence. However, I didn’t want to just forcus on times of adversity but also share positive and mundane stories that portray different emotions.

CONTENT COLLECTION

The stories featured in this project have been collected from friends, family, teachers and peers. To collect these stories a Google Form was created. However, the aim is for stories to be collected from the general public on a day-to-day basis.

Following the theme of ‘Survival’ and the survival of stories, when people contributed a story I wanted them to dig a little deeper and recell a story that even they had forgotten about. Hence, I provided different emotions as prompts for their stories. Some people found this difficult and had to take a moment to sit and think about a story to share. The outcome were stories that they hadn’t thought about or a while. Hence that story in their life was found and didn’t go lost.

This method of content collect provided people with a safe and open space to share their stories and was an interactive experience for the users.
